For more than 40 years, Wermelskirchen has been home of all different kinds of sports on wheels. But despite this intense historic relation, the city is lacking places to practice them, which is why this year – together with local initiatives and the city of Wermelskirchen – a brand new and modern concept for the Jugendfreizeitpark has been developed.
Its goal was to adapt to the recent adolescent living environment by uniting different informal sports on one inspiring location. As a newly acquired local meeting point, the Jugendfreizeitpark should cause cohesion and sense of community among Wermelskirchen’s youth. Thus, in participative workshops, apart from street and bowl areas, special focus was put on the creation of a multi-functional court that opens up a whole new array of sportive opportunities.
